About the Quinnell family
The Quinnell Lounge is famously named after Llanelli’s Quinnell dynasty; Scarlets, Wales and British Lions legend Derek Quinnell and his three sons Craig, Scott and Gavin. Derek Quinnell started his career with Llanelli RFC in 1967, was a part of the famous 1972 team which secured a victory over the All Blacks and went on to captain Llanelli in 1979/80.
Derek made his international debut for Wales in 1972, and toured on three British and Irish Lions tours before retiring in 1983 having won a total of 30 international caps. All three Quinnell sons played top flight professional rugby with appearances for both Llanelli RFC and the Scarlets.
